Cycling for Hope: Delhi Rallies for Children Battling Cancer
On a bright March morning in Delhi, over 100 participants pedalled through the city streets, carrying a powerful message of hope during the Delhi Cycle for Gold Rally organised by CanKids KidsCan – the National Society for Change for Childhood Cancer in India. The rally, part of a pan-India campaign launched on World Cancer Day and continuing through International Childhood Cancer Day, is one of the country’s largest community-driven initiatives for childhood cancer awareness.
The event was flagged off by Dr. Blossom Kochhar, renowned entrepreneur and social advocate, from Hauz Khas, while Dr. M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS New Delhi, led another group from the hospital, where doctors, nurses, and CanKids staff pledged solidarity for children battling cancer. Cyclists from across the city rode through Delhi before converging at Palika Bazar, Connaught Place, for a vibrant gathering symbolising collective resolve and support.
Dr. Kochhar, also the Smile Ambassador for CanKids, highlighted the contribution of ?1 from every sale of select Aroma Magic products in February and March to support children with cancer. Gift hampers were sponsored by the Blossom Kochhar Group of Companies to honour survivors, volunteers, and cyclists.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Srinivas emphasised the importance of early diagnosis, timely treatment, and strong community support. “Fighting childhood cancer is not just the responsibility of hospitals and doctors, but of society as a whole,” he said.
The rally included children and families from CanKids’ Home Away from Home facilities and volunteers, reinforcing the message that no child faces cancer alone. Across India, the campaign has mobilised cyclists who have already covered over 4.7 lakh kilometres, aiming for six lakh kilometres to raise awareness and funds.
Through initiatives like Cycle for Gold, CanKids KidsCan continues to champion equitable access to treatment, care, and support for children, proving that when communities unite, hope and action ride hand in hand.
