Healthcare on Wheels: HDFC Bank Takes Primary Care to India’s Remote Communities
New Delhi, March 25, 2026: In a move to strengthen last mile healthcare access, HDFC Bank, through its CSR programme Parivartan, has partnered with Smile Foundation to launch eight Mobile Medical Care Units across remote regions of North India, aiming to serve nearly four lakh people.
Spanning Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand, the initiative focuses on communities where access to healthcare remains a challenge due to difficult terrain and limited infrastructure. The mobile units are designed to bring essential services directly to people’s doorsteps, addressing critical gaps in timely care.
Each unit will provide a comprehensive range of primary healthcare services, including OPD consultations, basic diagnostics, and free medicines. The programme also includes maternal care, child health monitoring, and screenings for conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and anaemia. School health camps and community awareness sessions will further promote hygiene, nutrition, and preventive healthcare practices.
Set to run from April 2026 to March 2028, the initiative reflects a strong focus on preventive and community based care. Speaking on the programme, Nusrat Pathan, Head CSR at HDFC Bank, highlighted that access to quality healthcare remains limited in many remote regions, and initiatives like these aim to bridge that gap by delivering integrated services directly to underserved populations.
Echoing this, Santanu Mishra of Smile Foundation emphasised the importance of taking healthcare to communities, noting that such partnerships play a crucial role in improving overall well being while complementing national health efforts.
With operations managed by Smile Foundation, the programme will deploy qualified medical professionals, follow established health protocols, and connect beneficiaries to government schemes under the National Health Mission.
Through Parivartan, HDFC Bank continues to expand its healthcare footprint, reinforcing the idea that accessible, timely care is essential to building healthier and more resilient communities.
