Leh, September 12, 2026: Reckitt has launched the Dettol School Hygiene Education Programme in Ladakh under its Dettol Banega Swasth India (BSI) campaign, in collaboration with the Directorate of School Education, Ladakh.
The programme was launched at Council Model School, Ayu Saboo, Leh, in the presence of Bhanu Prabha, IAS, Administrative Secretary, School Education Department, UT Ladakh.
The initiative will provide hygiene education to students through classroom activities, teacher training and practical demonstrations. The programme focuses on five areas: personal hygiene, hygiene at school, hygiene at home, hygiene during illness and hygiene in the neighbourhood.
According to Reckitt, the programme is designed to help students develop hygiene-related knowledge and practices that can be applied at school and at home. The company said the initiative is intended to extend hygiene awareness to families and local communities through students.
Jagran Pehel will lead the on-ground implementation. Students and teachers will receive access to a hygiene education curriculum, student workbooks, teacher training manuals and classroom activities. The programme will also use animated content, videos developed with Sesame Workshop, digital games and an interactive hygiene chatbot.
Schools will additionally receive comic books, awareness posters, 3D do-it-yourself hygiene and sanitation kits, and game-based learning tools. Live handwashing demonstrations will be conducted to teach students the recommended handwashing technique and explain its role in reducing the spread of infections.
Bhanu Prabha said schools can play a role in shaping health and hygiene habits among children and that students can help carry these practices into their families and communities.
Prof. Ravi Bhatnagar, Director, Corporate Communications and Corporate Affairs, South Asia, MENARP, and Africa, Reckitt, said the expansion to Ladakh was part of the company’s effort to increase access to health and hygiene education in areas that can be difficult to reach through conventional programmes.
Reckitt said Dettol Banega Swasth India has reached more than 30 million children through programmes across over 900,000 schools and facilitated more than 43 billion handwashing occasions over the past decade.
The Ladakh programme adds to the campaign’s school-based hygiene interventions, with implementation now extending to the Union Territory’s high-altitude and geographically dispersed communities.
